Good morning!! Sutton and I like to start every morning off with a super large green smoothie. If you don’t eat any greens the rest of the day, at least you know you had some for breakfast! Looks like our cat, Gunther (usually called Gunny), decided to make his way into the picture. He really enjoys eating spinach. He doesn’t eat a lot…just 1 or 2 baby spinach leaves torn up.
This is our standard, everyday smoothie. However, we switch up the type of greens alternating between kale, spinach and swiss chard. We almost always use a banana, but the other fruit can change, depending on what’s in season or what we are in the mood for. We also switch up the seeds, using flax and pumpkin seeds sometimes. On occasion, I will add in some hemp protein. You can really put a lot of different things in a smoothie and it will generally come out just tasting like the greens and the fruit. As long as you are not adding a TON of something else of course!
We do drink these for nutrition and not always for taste. Kale can be really bitter sometimes, so if you’re new to green smoothies, I would start with spinach. It’s also good to start with a smaller amount of greens and work your way up to more. We use the Blendtec blender, which grinds up our greens and everything else into liquid.
It would probably also be good to note that Sutton likes his smoothies on the thin side. So the consistency is more like a juice than a frozen smoothie. I recommend experimenting a lot to find what you like best!
